Assessments
At Specialised Behavioural Support Services, we provide professional, evidence-based assessments designed to create a clear roadmap for support. We focus on understanding each person’s unique strengths and challenges to ensure they receive the right level of care and intervention to thrive in their daily lives.
Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA)
An FCA is a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s capabilities across a range of day-to-day activities and environments. The goal is to evaluate and understand how the disability impacts daily functioning, to help pinpoint the level of support required to reach individual goals and aspirations.
Under the NDIS, an FCA covers:
- Self-care
- Communication
- Mobility
- Self-management
- Social interaction
- Learning & task completion
Functional Behavioural Assessments (FBA)
An FBA is a specialised process used to understand the "function" or purpose behind a specific challenging behaviour. By systematically analysing environmental triggers and the resulting outcomes, this process enables the development of evidence-based strategies that replace reactive responses with proactive, skill-building support.
Under the NDIS, an FBA helps individuals:
- Communicate their needs
- Build new skills
- Reduce anxiety
- Increase community participation
- Improve relationships
- Eliminate restrictive practices
